Online Safety at Our Lady’s

"Pupils know how to stay safe in and out of school, including while using the internet and socialising online, because of the guidance they receive. Safety, well-being and online safety are carefully woven throughout the curriculum and taught well through many different subjects and strategies. As a result, pupils confidently use technology and know the correct actions to take if they have any concerns."

SIP Report 2021

"The whole curriculum, including the enrichment, provides an excellent range of learning and personal development opportunities. This is a harmonious school where respect is a core value shown by all adults and pupils."

Ofsted Report 2017

At Our Lady’s, we recognise how important it is to keep all pupils safe when working online. Keeping our pupils safe on the internet is a key learning focus in every year groups and there is rich evidence of this work in the PSHE books in every class.

Outside agencies such as NSPCC, Crucial Crew and Childline, all make regular presentations to pupils to support our work on Online-Safety.

All pupils have signed the following charter and are reminded of their responsibilities regularly:

  • Whilst at school, I will only use the school’s computers and equipment for schoolwork and homework.

  • I will only view, edit or delete my own files and will not look at or change other people’s files without their permission.

  • I will keep my login and password secret, and if I discover someone else’s password I will not use it and tell them as soon as I can.

  • I will not bring files into school without permission or upload inappropriate material to my workspace.

  • I am aware that some websites and social networks (e.g. Facebook) have age restrictions and I should respect this.

  • I will not attempt to visit Internet sites that I know are banned by the school.

  • I will only email people I know, or a responsible adult has approved.

  • The messages I send, or information I upload, will always be polite and sensible.

  • I will not open an attachment or download a file, unless I know and trust the person who sent it.

  • I will not give my home address, phone number, send a photograph or video, or give any other personal information that could be used to identify me, my family, or my friends, unless a responsible adult has given permission.

  • I will never arrange to meet someone I have only ever previously met on the Internet, unless I have told my parent/carer and they have given me permission and I take a responsible adult with me.

  • If I see anything I am unhappy with or I receive a message I do not like, I will not respond to it, but I will show a teacher/responsible adult.
