Living Out The Word

Fratelli Tutti

Fratelli Tutti is an encyclical, or open letter, written by Pope Francis. It was published on October 4 2020. In the encyclical Pope Francis asks us to reach out to our sisters and brothers in need, whoever they are, wherever they may come from. We are challenged to turn outwards and think of ourselves as one global family, becoming neighbours to all.  Fratelli Tutti is a new dream for a world after coronavirus. It turns the world upside down, placing human dignity at the centre.

Laudato Si

Laudato Si’ is an encyclical written by Pope Francis, it was published on the 18th June 2016. Encyclicals are open letters written by the pope. Laudato Si’ discusses the damage being inflicted on the Earth by humans and calls on every person living on this planet to make urgent changes to our lifestyles and how we consume energy in order to protect the planet. It deals with many environmental issues including:

  • Pollution

  • Climate change

  • Water

  • Loss of biodiversity

  • Decline in the quality of human life

In his letter, Pope Francis implores us to work together to create a better world for future generations and asks us to make the necessary changes in our lives in order to take care of, respect and value our ‘common home’.

Year of St Joseph 2021

Pope Francis declared this year (2021) to be a special year to especially remember St Joseph. The year is dedicated to remembering the  important person St Joseph was in Jesus’ life.

St Joseph protected the Holy Family, Mary and Jesus, when he was on earth and today in heaven he continues to care for all families, including God’s worldwide family – the Church. Here at Our Lady's, we are going to focus this year on learning from St Joseph, how to be caring, humble, faithful, and listen carefully to God and each other.

Year of the Word

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales have declared 2020 to be a year of special focus on the Bible.

This marks the tenth anniversary of Pope Benedict XVI's Apostolic Exhortation, Verbum Domini, (The Word of the Lord) and the 1600 years since the death of Saint Jerome - who translated the Bible into Latin. The year started on the Feast of Saint Jerome, 30 September 2019, and runs until 31 December 2020.

During this year we are called to explore and celebrate the Word of God through the Scriptures, share the Word with others and respond to the "God who speaks" in the way that we live.
