Prayer & Worship
Hope in the Future
Hope in the Future programme was formally launched on the 4th October 2017. We were presented with San Damiano Cross to remember Jesus’ call of St Francis to ‘Rebuild my Church’. This journey is five stages which we have worked through to connect our home, school and parish together.

Year of St Francis 2026.
This year marks the 800th anniversary of St Francis of Assisi's death in 1226. Pope Leo XIV has declared that this year will be a special Year of St Francis in which we are all called to become saints in our world, following St Francis' example. We are called to model a holiness of life and witness to peace. To mark this special year the the Laudato Si department, the Formation department, Caritas and School Singing Partnership have produced a prayer trail around the focus of St Francis’ later life for schools in Salford Diocese to complete.
Prayer and Worship
Prayer is an intrinsic and essential part of school life here at Our Lady’s RC Primary School. Children are encouraged to ‘talk to God’ and taught how to be still and reflect during worship time. We encourage children to be spontaneous and use areas around school to decide when they would like to engage with God.
Prayer is part of daily school life within celebration of the word: prayer and liturgy which is led by staff and pupils. Children are expected to plan weekly worship and everyone is encouraged to reflect at multiple points throughout the week on the weekly gospel. Children say daily prayers morning, lunchtime and hometime as well as other traditional prayers during times we are together such as assemblies, meetings etc. Children are expected to know certain prayers within different stages of their journey at Our Lady’s, the progression grid in attached documents outlines this in more detail. Children are supported to engage in different types/format of prayer using various resources to enhance such as Mark 10 Mission, Ten:Ten Prayer and Liturgy and CAFOD.
All children from Reception to Year 6 attend mass at various points in the liturgical calendar. In addition, each class throughout KS2 have their turn at leading mass throughout the year alongside Father Kevin, for the whole school as well as parents and parishioners. Children in KS2 are supportive of those in Year 3 who choose to complete their Sacramental Programme and link with the parish often to guide this journey.
Finally, the GIFT team lead prayer and worship throughout the school regularly, involving the parishioners in events such as Love Your Community day, Harvest festival and Easter Afternoon Tea. Please visit the Faith Teams page for more information.
Sacramental Programme
In Year 3, your child will have the opportunity to prepare and celebrate the sacraments of Reconciliation, and First Eucharist. The ‘Heart speaks to Heart programme’ will guide and prepare your child, working together at school, home and within the parish to embark on a special journey towards making First Holy Communion. More information will be available on 9th January 2024, when the initial meeting at Holy Family Church will take place for those children and parents wishing to take part.
