YR- Week Commencing 12/10/26
This week in phonics, the children have been learning the sounds b, c, g. We have also introduced the high frequency words 'a', 'is' and 'the'. The children really impressed us with their writing this week during the dictation part of our lesson. In maths, we have been looking at the number 5. We sang our rhyme '5 Little Peas' and we spoke about the composition of 5. Some children went on to use our stem sentence '4 + 1 equals 5'. The children have really enjoyed our maths provision this week where we played a dice game and took turns to roll the dice to collect 5 leaves on our autumn tree. We also investigated mass this week and used the scales in the maths area to decide which group of bears was the heaviest. We have been busy preparing for our upcoming Art Exhibition in the hall ad we created our final pieces of art work linked to the artist that we have been studying- Mark Hearld. We spoke about the word 'collage' and then went onto making our own Winter Collage pictures. Some children even applied their new collage skills in provision where they collaged a scarecrow. We have read the story 'Squirrel's Autumn Search' and we spoke about some of the different things that we might find at autumn time. We then went into the forest with our checklists to look for signs of Autumn. The children were very interested to learn about some of the different animals that we might see out during Autumn and how they are busy preparing for the winter. Thank you to everyone that attended our Phonics Workshop this week. What a wonderful week of learning!
