YR- Week Commencing 2/11/26

We have had a wonderful first week back to school. Our new outdoor area has finally been finished and we have been making the most of every opportunity to get outside and play this week. The children have thoroughly enjoyed exploring all of the new areas and played together so well. We have also spent lots of time this week learning about our new topic Light and Dark. We have explored Diwali and learnt so much about why the festival is celebrated by Hindus from all around the world. In DT, the children made their own Diya lamps out of salt dough and we have left these to air dry over the weekend before we paint and decorate them next week.

Later in the week, we explored Bonfire Night and we spoke about events that happened in the past that have encouraged us to celebrate Bonfire night to this day. We have been busy exploring this in our role play area- 'The Bonfire Cafe'. The children have been working on their communication and language skills, talking to each other and asking questions in their role play. In Phonics, we introduced the sounds 'h' and 'd' this week. The children really impressed us with their sentence writing this week and how well they formed their letters.
