The Rotary Club Junior Speaks Competition
On Tuesday January 31st we hosted Wigan Rotary Clubs Junior Speaks contest at school which gives the children an opportunity to present a formal speech.
The event this year was attended by 4 other local schools and Our Lady’s were lucky enough to be able to enter 2 teams.
Each child in year 6 was given the opportunity to research, write and deliver a thought provoking speech on something they were passionate about. Miss Wallace and Mrs Bithell were amazed at the high standard of work produced and found it extremely hard to make a decision of which speeches to put forward to the contest.
Our teams that were entered comprised of a Chairperson, Speaker, Vote of thanks and a reserve.
Team “Blue Blood” delivered an emotional speech on Haemophilia and the Tainted Blood Scandal she chose this subject because it is close to her heart and she wanted to spread awareness on this subject.
Team “Take Action” were passionate about their subject, he delivered a serious speech titled “Should NATO take action in the war in Ukraine”, he chose this subject because he wanted to delve deeper into a certain aspect involving the war in Ukraine.
Other topics covered were Girls in Sport, Should Zoos still exist in today’s society? and Kindness Matters.
We are proud to announce the overall winners on the day were Our Lady’s with the Blue Blood presentation. They will now go on to deliver their speech at the Mayors Parlour, along with Our Lady’s team “Take Action” and then on to the Rotary club at a special celebratory lunch.
